Abstract
Tele-consultation in Pre-anaesthetic Assessment

Since 2019, the world has entered the new era of fifth generation tele-communication (5G). The capabilities of 5G and other novel technologies bring numerous possibilities to telemedicine. The delivery of care through telemedicine is greatly improved.

While healthcare providers were considering telemedicine as an adjunct to traditional consultation, the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic catalyzed the telemedicine development and placed it to a higher priority to sustain the clinical service. Facing the surge of pandemic, Hong Kong public sector decided to downsize the non-emergency clinical service to reduce the risk of disease transmission. A local tertiary hospital had piloted the tele-consultation for nurse pre-anaesthetic assessment during the pandemic. In this session, the tele-medicine development and implementation of tele-consultation would be discussed.
