Dr Lau graduated from University of Hong Kong. After she obtained her fellowship in anaesthesiology, Dr. Lau has subspecialised in cardiac anaesthesia in the Department of Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia, Queen Mary Hospital. She also received further training in paediatric cardiac anaesthesia at Royal Children's Hospital in Australia. She is now consultant anaesthesiologist of Hong Kong Children’s Hospital. Her special interests include paediatric cardiac anaesthesia, massive transfusion and ultrasound guided vascular assess.
Paediatric massive transfusion can be defined as replacement of more than 10% of patient’s total blood volume per minute. Meticulous preparation is essential when massive haemorrhage is predicted, even more so in paediatric patient. The first part of the presentation will be focused on establishment of peripheral and central venous access, while in the second part the speaker will share the experience of implementation of massive transfusion protocol (MTP) in a local paediatric hospital.
